A sharp original coin, currently in a PCGS AU-55 holder. Clearly and ridiculously undergraded, this coin show NO wear on the shield lines, which are fully struck and sharp, so any blunting from circulation contact would show. There is what might be considered contact/wear on a few of the leaves, mainly on the left side of the wreath, but could just as likely be due to strike. I sent this in myself and can assure you that I would not have bothered unless I felt it would certify Unc (and had expected it back in an MS-62BN holder). In my opinion, a coin that saw no actual circulation but was put aside in the year of issue and spent many years mixed in with other coins in a misc. assortment held by a non-collector. The darker “streak” evident on the Obverse is typical of coins from such storage, where they made contact with the edge of a Large Cent - for some reason, these coins tended to cause this effect, not sure why. If you choose to consider this “circulation” so be it. However, as the old saying goes, “you can’t fight City Hall”, so offered at the value of an AU-58, which I feel it equitable for the quality.
