1817 Coronet Head Large Cent, Almost Uncirculated Details, Good Planchet
1817 Coronet Head Large Cent, Almost Uncirculated Details, Good Planchet
Details equivalent to what will typically certify AU-53 to 55. On a sound planchet and original, hard to find as such. This had been put away in a non-numismatic lot of coins, and made minor contact with moisture at some point. The result is some small darker "spots" on the surface, primarily on the Reverse. This is exceedingly light corrosion on the surface only, without any obvious raised verdigris or "mumps" and extremely shallow. They appear mainly as a "shadow" area slightly darker than the background of the surface and show up worse in our images that they appear on the coin when viewed in person. The Reverse image provided shows the problem areas, however this image has been taken in such a way to make this more obvious, so nobody gets an unpleasant surprise. To that end, please review our images with care prior to considering making a purchase. When viewed in person in the normal manner that someone looks at a coin, these areas are not as obvious. Otherwise problem free - the "lump" on the Obverse rim at 9:00 is a cud. Considering the difficulty in locating a high-grade circulated example which is not totally screwed up, our price should appeal to someone looking for a decent example to represent the Type. Guaranteed genuine, and guaranteed to certify as AU Details if you wish to spend the money to send it in, however which I see as a waste. Obviously, if this coin would holder "clean", I would have already done it myself.
