1876 Indian Cent, Popular Centennial Date, PCGS/CAC AU-58

1876 Indian Cent, Popular Centennial Date, PCGS/CAC AU-58

$342.00

Popular as a souvenir of the celebration of the Centennial of the Independence of the United States, then as now. As a date, fairly widely hoarded by the general public at the time, however nice AU’s and Unc coins are generally not available. This is likely due to the abuse many saw at the hands of their non-numismatist owners, as well as the fact that most were probably lost or spent some years after being pulled from circulation, as the novelty wore off. Either way, this is a nice original brown coin, with little if any wear. Considerable original planchet color remains on the Reverse. Just a touch of wear on Liberty’s hair ribbon and cheek, and a few light marks acquired while in storage. Repatriated from Europe. This should CAC, however not quite as much as a “lock” compared to the 1871 Cent in PCGS AU-58 which came from the same source, due to one patch of small marks at 11:00. Depends on how picky they get.
