A stunning original AU/Unc example of this popular Key Date. Recovered out of Europe, this was likely an Uncirculated coin that picked up the slightest detectable wear while sitting in storage somewhere. This consists of basically contact on Liberty’s cheek and hair ribbon, with essentially no marks to mention. Frankly, although I poo-poo the grade, I don’t know why this did NOT get an AU-58+. I also just as sure that an expert “mechanic” could work on this coin and get it into an MS holder in the MS-62 range. A lock to get a sticker at CAC - combined AU-58 population at PCGS & NGC of 187 coins, but only 17 at CAC. Unlike some other series, this is one where a “bean” does make a difference in price. I am so sure of my opinion that this is PRICED as if it has a CAC sticker, less the actual cost of getting it done - the knowledgeable observer can make up their own opinion about the coin (and remember I offer a no-question return privilege). I don’t have enough material to send off to CAC at present, however this coin is likely to go when I do.
