1875 Indian Cent, Choice Almost Uncirculated
A very sharp AU+ example of this better date, similar to the other coin I am offering, also with less than ideal surfaces. In this case, just uniformly a bit dark. No corrosion or pitting visible, and some luster is still plainly evident. Probably another victim of long term storage in a purse, although a cedar cigar box could be another candidate. The Reverse has some light “goobers” on it, that show as a series of whitish accretions stuck into protected areas of the wreath and lettering. This is not corrosion either, but a waxy substance that is a natural product of handling by human hands, a combination of skin oil, grease and dirt. This can be removed with patience, which I did not have enough of, and a good coin-safe solvent such as Alcohol or Acetone. I also did not want to “push” too much on these areas to avoid potentially scratching the coin; I leave that to the new owner. Not unattractive in its own way.
