1918/7-D Buffalo Nickel, Famous Overdate, PCGS Good-6, Strong Reverse

1918/7-D Buffalo Nickel, Famous Overdate, PCGS Good-6, Strong Reverse

$949.00

A famous Wartime overdate, this date is commonly "net" graded due to the frequently poor strike characteristics of the 1918 production at Denver. In the case of this coin, the Obverse die shows clear signs of stress lines caused by extended use, however it was paired with a fairly fresh Reverse die. The Reverse on it's own grades a Fine, and I and others who have seen the coin felt a "net" grade of Very Good could easily have been assigned. Regardless, the overdate feature is plainly obvious, and more of the overall date is visible than many examples in the assigned grade. No damage or major problems as many survivors in the lower grades seem to suffer from, although it might be a touch dark for some. This variety was not discovered until the 1930's, so most examples seem to have been rode hard and put down wet, as they used to say. A solid average circulated coin to fill that pesky hole.
