1927-S Peace Dollar, Choice Almost Uncirculated, PCGS/CAC AU-58, RARE
1927-S Peace Dollar, Choice Almost Uncirculated, PCGS/CAC AU-58, RARE
A nice original AU/Unc example of this Semi Key date. The “real deal” showing exceptionally light wear, mainly the random scuffing typical of coins that saw minimal actual use in circulation. Bright, flashy lustrous surfaces, what commonly passes for “Choice BU” as a raw coin in the hands of lesser dealers. Flat out RARE as a CAC stickered coin, only NINE versus over 800 coins at PCGS & NGC combined. Some of that is the lack of incentive to submit coins in this grade, due to the relatively small posted CAC premium. However, some also is the fact that 90% of “AU-58” certified coins I see in the Peace Dollar series are questionable at best - with most of the real ones showing up in MS-61 or 62 slabs. Don’t laugh at this - I spent a frustrating time looking through multiple boxes of certified Peace Dollars at the the January 2023 F. U. N. Show without finding ONE coin graded Unc that I thought made the grade. Typical market pricing of this coin is far too cheap in my estimation - that shown is based upon my own opinion of value. Which begs the question: if price alone is a factor, would you rather purchase this coin or a certified MS-62, such as the other ‘27-S offered here (which I assure you is a genuine Unc) at near twice the price, when many people could not tell the difference between the two? Food for thought. Please Note: there is a small chip out of the web on the back side of the slab (image provided).
