1937-D Buffalo Nickel, Three Legs, Famous Error/Variety
(CURRENTLY ON HOLD FOR A CUSTOMER) A nice high grade example of this famous & popular error/variety. This variety was discovered late enough after striking that most specimens got out into circulation, so Uncirculated examples are quite scarce, for a late date in the series. The result is that anything that was close to Unc was called as such back in the pre-PCGS/NGC days. As this variety is weak and mushy on the Reverse by definition, dealers could get away with that. This coin in fact came out of an old auction where it was sold as “Unc”, however even cursory examination with show some light dulling and loss of luster on the Bison’s hip bones, hide and head. Not to say that this might not come back in a low end BU holder if attempted (MS-61/62 is not out of the possibility), but I prefer to leave it as it is. Any issue as to the coin’s condition is left aside by the attractive light toning, a mix of light yellow and pinkish-reds, that developed over the years; thankfully, this was left in the auctions archival Mylar flip for safety. This is also struck a little better than most of these, a bonus. For someone who wants a nice raw example, this should do the trick. As always, guaranteed 100% genuine.
