W-14, the "Speared Olive Bud" variety (R-4), struck by the Confederacy near the end of production before the available Silver ran out. As they say, obvious as sin ... enlarged images provided for the rest of us. This has basically mid-grade AU details, with an old cleaning that left the surfaces looking a bit bright. Some light hairlines are visible on the Obverse, although it has begun to tone back and the color is at least acceptable. Almost certainly a pocket piece carried for a short time. Submitted to PCGS to get the attribution on the holder, as it was only a 50-50 shot that it would certify in a "normal" holder. Good premium for this variety – the last PCGS XF-40 sold in 2019 brought over $1000 vs. an estimated value in the $800 range. PCGS suggests $1200 in AU-55.
