A nice original specimen of the N-9 “Knob on Ear” variety. A slightly later die state, with the secondary break below the main “knob” starting to fill in from the left. The first enlarged image is of the coin offered; the second is courtesy of PCGS as a comparison. As this variety is very obvious, a fair number were put aside as a curiosity, but there is still a reasonable premium for the variety as it is very popular.
