1921-D Mercury Dime, Semi Key Date, PCGS XF-45, Very Scarce
1921-D Mercury Dime, Semi Key Date, PCGS XF-45, Very Scarce
Tougher in the grade (if graded by "old school" standards) than its Philadelphia cousin in my opinion, despite having a few more certified by PCGS/NGC. Strike is the issue, and I find that many "EF's" lack definition in the fasces, being certified Net based upon Obverse detail. This coin is struck far better than most, with bold details around the rims, uncommon as noted in Lange. A full set of lines in the fasces as well, with obvious remaining luster in protected areas around the rims. Now the CAC question: to my knowledge this coin has not been seen. It is my opinion that this certainly meets the standards for the grade, however as picky as CAC is, the coin is likely only a 50-50 proposition, due to surface. This is a bit scruffy on the Obverse, and was possibly lightly cleaned a VERY long time ago. Either way, I am not asking a CAC premium, so possibly an opportunity for someone here, if they want to take the shot. It should work for someone who is just looking for a "meaty" example. I am also offering the companion 1921 in PCGS/CAC XF-45 as a separate listing, and would be happy combine shipping.
