1867 Indian Cent, Repunched Date 67/67, Snow-1, Original Fine+

1867 Indian Cent, Repunched Date 67/67, Snow-1, Original Fine+
A nice original example of this popular Repunched Date (RPD) variety. Snow-1a, in a slightly later die state. The underlying extra top of the 7 shows clearly, as does the extra 6 albeit a bit less evident; it is never as bold as the 7 on these, except for the few rare near Gems. All seem to be a bit weak at center so LIBERTY does not show completely, however equivalent to what will certify as a Fine-15 at PCGS. The certified population drops sharply above Very Good, probably more a reflection of the fact that this date itself is not common above Average Circulated. Nice specimens are strongly held in collector hands, evidenced that NONE of the VF-20 to VF-35 coins certified by PCGS (25 in total) has ever been sold at auction! Few varieties can lay claim to that fact.
