1917-S Buffalo Nickel, Choice Almost Uncirculated, PCGS AU-55, Well Struck

1917-S Buffalo Nickel, Choice Almost Uncirculated, PCGS AU-55, Well Struck

A very original coin that shows the slightly "speckled" charcoal grey toning that sometime shows up on Branch Mint Nickels into the early 1920's. Well struck for a '17-S, with good overall detail on the Bison including a full split tail end. The Obverse die was just slightly older; while well defined LIBERTY shows just a bit of mush near the rim. A few tiny rim marks from brief circulation, otherwise I felt it could have certified higher. VERY tough to find in this grade, especially with this strike, as most existing coins have been too abused to certify.
