An original BU specimen of this slightly better date, with flashy luster on lightly toned surfaces. A few light “hairlines” from brief handling. Remember: no such thing as a “BU Roll” of Liberty Nickels. Most high grade Uncirculated specimens exist only due to being put aside immediately after release from a fresh Treasury bag that made it to a bank, or were purchased direct from the Treasury one-at-a-time by East Coast collectors. The majority of Uncirculated survivors were saved at random by the non-collecting public, in a mixed “hoard” of coins, which result in the minor stains, light spots, toning and mild hairlines from scuffing against other coins. Short of certified MS-65 coins, virtually NO Uncirculated Liberty Nickel does not display one or more of those light issues - the difference is, no WEAR. Wear on this series almost always started on Liberty’s cheek, as the design was such low relief and “open” with not much in the way of raised features to protect the center of the coin.
