An original example of this Key Date, equivalent to what will certify VG-10. VERY close to Fine, just missing the “I” in LIBERTY, and L & B are a touch weak. Not too surprising as this area seems to have a problem with strike on this date. Original grey green surfaces, a few light scuffs on the Obverse mainly visible as they contrast to the color, which most likely developed from many years while stored in a loose accumulation of coins. It is my experience that almost all examples pulled from circulation in the early part of the 20th Century to put into a Whitman folder or similar enclosure were inevitably cleaned to make them “shiny”. Thankfully, this seems to have escaped notice.
