A decent high grade example of this scarcer date, one I seldom see let alone in this grade, despite PCGS CoinFacts labeling it as “relatively common”. That has to be taken in terms of the Shield Nickel series overall, where dates that would be a Semi Key in any other series are considered more “common” due to some lack of demand. It is possible that this coin never actually saw use in circulation, however it does show minor traces of actual wear. Technical surfaces of an AU-58, the Reverse shows an old cleaning, very common to this series due to toning that developed in early “coin boards” or Whitman folders, the only option for collectors for many years. There is also an old grease spot that appears to have been removed. The Obverse shows the die cracks common to this date, perhaps a bit odd as the mintage of only 2 Million suggests a problem with die preparation rather than overuse. Regardless, a sharp specimen that is otherwise problem free - offered at about the level of a basic AU coin.
