HK-433, a souvenir of the lesser known 1915 Panama-California Exposition in San Diego. A “consolation prize” awarded to the area after being beaten out by San Francisco for the major Exposition meant to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal. The event had the virtue of establishing the San Diego area as a “coming attraction” and leading to its future growth. Also included in the many “Good Luck Token” designs common to the 1910 to 1935 period, with a Swastika Reverse. Underrated as a Type, most are found circulated, damaged or corroded. Scarce in Prooflike, with 8 in the grade, only one MS-64PL and one MS-64DPL better.
