1924-S Standing Liberty Quarter, PCGS MS-61FH, Rare!
1924-S Standing Liberty Quarter, PCGS MS-61FH, Rare!
(Sold Jan. 2022 for $1,249) Original and regardless of how you view the assigned grade, very tough with any semblance of a Full Head. This is definitely FH although due to the toning a bit difficult to get the best image - that shown is a portion of the PCGS True View image of the Obverse. (The main True View image can be seen on PCGS by checking on the coin cert verification app.) Considering that virtually every example in a PCGS or NGC holder between the 58 and 62 grades I reviewed could be considered shall we say, a bit “questionable” as to originality, or even that they were actually “new”, this coin offers an intriguing value. Three in the grade at PCGS (17 in MS-62FH), 9 at NGC, when last checked. Neither of those other two PCGS coins have been to auction and no auctions of an NGC coin the grade since 2009, which makes establishing a current value somewhat difficult. I will note that less my standard 5% “cash” discount, the effective price of this coin is $1,250 - the current Wholesale value in this grade is $1,150, which should make my price reasonable. For reference, the PCGS Guide value is $1,500, the Greysheet “CPG” value is $1,440.
