1939 Walking Liberty Half Dollar, Proof, NGC/CAC PF-63, PQ
An original old time certified Proof example, in a first generation NGC “fatty”. Attractive for the grade, with just a tiny bit of light toning to show that this has never been abused. Unlike many that appear in this grade range, no dark toning, stains, spots or washed out look. Correctly graded by the old school standards in use at the time (circa 1987-88), the grade is accounted for by a light area of contact just above In God We Trust from the crispy packaging used by the Mint. This appears as the slight “smudge” that appears in the second Obverse image, however it is not readily evident when looking at the coin in person. Out of the holdings of a now retired coin dealer who was one of the early NGC member dealers - the holder itself is nice and clean with no scratches or damage to the hologram. Tough with a CAC sticker: 239 coins in the grade at PCGS & NGC combined, but only 4 at CAC (October, 2021). The CAC sticker confirms the obvious: this is a very nice coin for the grade.
