1812 Classic Head Large Cent, Original Fine, Good Planchet

1812 Classic Head Large Cent, Original Fine, Good Planchet

$319.00

Small Date, S-290. An original example of this Type, more astonishingly with a good planchet. This series is notorious for poor planchets, with dark, corroded coins being the norm. The only fault to mention is an old light scratch at the top of the Obverse. This shows up in our images far worse than on the coin due to the use of artificial light, which seems to make every flaw look like the Grand Canyon. While visible on the actual coin, it is not obnoxious. The dies were also slightly out of register, or the planchet was slightly tipped when struck - this seems to be a semi-common feature on this date. Trends value $475, when certified these seem to always bring a premium above typical Wholesale levels dealer-to-dealer. While the old scratch might prevent certification, I don’t really see the point, and it should be reasonable at my price.
