1893-S/S Barber Dime, Repunched Mintmark, Choice Almost Uncirculated

A sharp AU/Unc example of this popular Repunched Mintmark variety, Lawrence-102, the so-called “Triple S”; Cherrypickers FS-501, CONECA RPM-001A. The doubling to the West that produces the “tripling” is mechanical or “shelf” doubling, caused by die bounce or twist at the moment of striking. I was not able to get a spectacularly good image of the RPM feature on the actual coin being offered, which is the first enlarged image of the MM area. The last image provided is courtesy of PCGS CoinFacts and shows the features of the variety more clearly. The coin being offered is a slightly later die state with the portion of the underlying “S” out to the right a bit more faint, however the curve of the left loop is clearly visible inside the Mintmark, and the bottom curve is obvious outside the Mintmark to the right. Better yet, an apparently original example that saw little if any use before being put aside - recovered from a random non-numismatic accumulation from Europe. Technical surface preservation clearly equivalent to an AU -58, with nice original color of medium charcoal gray. The toning does hide some of the luster, but it is there.
