The first example of this scarcer Type I have seen in quite a while, few and far between compared to the With Arrows variety. Not surprising considering the Mintage figures are 135,000 No Arrows, compared to 13.2 MILLION With Arrows. PCGS estimates that as few as 350 examples exist in all grades. While I take all such estimates with a large grain of salt, it is relevant as a comparison between the two to compare overall availability. This particular example apparently survived due to having been lost to the ground and recovered later, probably with a metal detector. Details of Choice Very Fine, in the 30-35 range, with the inevitable old cleaning. The Obverse brighter than the Reverse, likely as it spent a number of years in a coin folder, which toned back the Reverse. The Obverse does show some very light hairlines, however nothing too serious and it does not look as rough as it appears in my image - tough to get a good sharp image of such a small coin. Not a “Gem” by any means, but certainly still worthy of a circulated set.
