No Stars, Small Date, basically a one-year Type. New Orleans struck a small quantity of No Stars coins in 1838, however they are extremely scarce and expensive, so the Type collector typically has no choice but to go with this Mintage for a “No Stars” coin. A nice original coin out of an old Idaho collection. The Reverse is rotated East (right) about 10 degrees - shown in my image “upright” as that is more or less the way people are used to seeing coins. The grading on this seems conservative, as the Reverse shows a lot of remaining luster. Scarce as a CAC coin: 71 combined PCGS/NGC in the grade, versus only 4 with CAC. It certainly should be worth a modest premium, less for the "bean" than for the fact that it is an attractive, original Type coin.
