1783 Washington Double Head "Cent", Original Problem Free Very Fine

$259.00

1783 Washington Double Head "Cent".  Breen 1204, Baker 6.  A modestly worn but seemingly original & problem free example of this private token issue, struck “for public convenience” in Birmingham, England in the 1815-20 period.  These circulated freely in the U. S. along with standard Federal Copper issues due to need, and were allowed until suppressed along with all other private issues.  While undated, these are commonly associated with the “1783” Washington pieces, from similar English sources.  In the “Redbook” and popularly collected along with the other Colonial series’. Grading these is more witchcraft than science, or even art, however this seems solidly in the range of what will certify a PCGS Very Fine, based upon specimens reviewed. Pricing is even more of a guess than grading, as there is no consistent market standard … simply put, priced based upon my cost.
