A rare fully original “slider” example of this Semi Key date. While not absolutely rare in the assigned grade, most certified AU-58’s available are what I deem unattractive as the surfaces are not original. Many seem to be “processed” in order to try to squeeze a BU grade out of them if they are actually a real AU-58, or they have been abused during previous ownership by collectors who pulled them out of circulation in the late 1950’s-60’s. As a result, most coins are heavily marked or scruffy from circulation, or washed out from over dipping/cleaning. I have included images taken by myself as well as the PCGS TrueView images, as the PCGS images make the coin look darker and "flat" due to the lighting used. The color of my images is more accurate. No heavy or significant marks, and those present are made less noticeable by the toning, which is even and an interesting red-gray color. I will be honest and admit that I had sent this in in the hopes that it would “slide” into an MS-61 or 62 holder, it is that close (and six months ago would possibly have made it). Frankly, I think the surfaces superior to any number of PCGS & NGC examples I reviewed in the 60 to 62 range. Be that as it may, it is what it is and the observer may judge accordingly. Very scarce as a CAC coin, only 16 versus 640+ at PCGS/NGC, despite a significant premium - I think this says a lot about “commercial" grading at the AU-58 grade.
