1927-S Standing Liberty Quarter, Original Very Fine, VERY Scarce!

$0.00

Bluntly put, the most commonly overgraded coin in the entire series, other than maybe the 1916. These were almost all very poorly struck, so dealers try to get away with that excuse to overgrade by at least and sometime two grades. And the coins graded even remotely close to accurate are almost always priced above supposed market, which reflects what dealers have to pay to get them. This also means that the grading services will certify cleaned examples in “normal” holders. This coin is a solid true VF and I would expect it to certify as a VF-20 or 25 if submitted to PCGS. What I would call original and the first such I have seen in quite a while. There is a slight possibility that it was exceptionally lightly cleaned a very long time ago, although there are no obvious signs. I say that just because in my experience 95% of all these have been cleaned at some point. The “line” visible across Liberty’s right breast is toning, not a scratch. Certainly worth a premium as similar to the situation with the typically poorly struck Buffalo Nickels of the 1920’s, overgraded coins, raw or certified, hold down the true value of a properly graded coin in the middle grades.
