O-101a, Large 8. A nice high grade example of this popular variety. The first use of the 1818/7 die, in a bit of a later die state, however the overdate feature shows boldly and clearly. This appears to be original, or at least has not been cleaned in well over a Century! I could not detect any “issues” along those lines, and I am confident it would certify if submitted. For comparison purposes in terms of grade, this can be judged against a PCGS/CAC XF-40 example that sold at Heritage Nov. 2017 (Lot #19669), images to be found on PCGS CoinFacts. Allowing for slight differences in strike characteristics, this is a close match. As it is not already “anointed” by PCGS or NGC, I will allow a bit of a discount in terms of price.
