1934-D Peace Dollar, Underrated Date, Unusual Toned Specimen

1934-D Peace Dollar, Underrated Date, Unusual Toned Specimen

$549.00

An attractive Choice Uncirculated example of this underrated date, certified NGC/CAC MS-64. More unusually, it shows light attractive toning on both sides, unusual for a Peace Dollar. Most Peace Dollars were never stored long enough in a fashion that promoted toning, as the vast majority of true BU specimens tend to be from bags released during the 1950’s and 1960’s. However, it has been noted that this particular date does not seem to have ever been released in bag quantity. Conversely, it seems common enough in circulated condition, and tends to be in lower grades when found, suggesting that they were likely mostly released soon after being struck. Most likely this coin was put aside during the 1940’s and stored in a coin envelope that caused the toning. Not for everyone to be sure, but worth it for the lover of toned Dollars, if no one else.
