JR-4, Late Die State. A sharp AU+ example of this Type, the variety well known for the massive, cross-coin Obverse die crack that developed late in the die’s life. There could not have been too many coins struck from this Obverse after this one! Very original with golden-gray colored surfaces, with significant luster remaining (more than my images show). As the images of the coin in the PCGS holder did not come out as well as I would like, images of the coin taken prior to certification are also provided as they may show the surface & details a bit better. The JR-4 variety itself is not scarce (R-1), although by definition the LDS is a bit scarcer at least, so an excellent choice to represent the Type. Few coins in this grade are as original as this one, which was repatriated out of Europe. FYI, PCGS attributed Population of only one coin in AU-55, with only one AU-58 and three in MS-64/65. Oddly enough, I recently had another JR-4 in PCGS AU-58, although it was not attributed on the label. Worth a reasonable premium I think for the originality, which is quite difficult to find in my experience.
